Join us for an informative and inspirational program from Robert Specter, the author of The Nordstrom Way™: Customer Service Excellence. An accomplished author and motivational speaker, he'll share information from his book The Mom & Pop Store, which celebrates the history of small, independent retailers and the story of how these small, independent shops thrive on attentive customer service and community support.
Mom and pop stores have always brought people together, fostering a sense of neighborhood identity and camaraderie, and are the glue that connects people in big cities and small towns alike. Growing up in a family that owned a butcher shop, he's long been fascinated by the "direct connection" people feel as merchants and customers when they do business in neighborhood shops. With the backdrop of the growing "buy local" movement across country, he set out to discover the state, and the state of mind, of independent retailing in America. To learn more, visit Robert's website.

|Dante's Inferno Dogs is turning ten! Fortunately for us, it's hard to remember a time without Dante Rivera's carts and those delicious dogs. Join me in congratulating him on this business success. And in his words, "Be careful with those weekend hobbies. Ten years later you may still be slingin' dogs."|

Lombardi's Neighborhood Italian closed its doors tonight after 23 years in Ballard! Sadly, we say good-bye to owners Diane Simms and Kerri Lonergan, but wish them well in the land beyond Ballard. (Is there really such a thing?) Diane will try to embrace a lighter work schedule and is looking forward to new endeavors. Kerri will continue to operate the remaining two restaurants in Everett and Issaquah. (And serving on the Lynnwood City Council.) So don't worry, you just have to travel a bit further to get that garlic fix. Even though, we'll miss them!
